Latest Updates from Our Project:

Final Countdown
over 5 years ago – Mon, Jan 14, 2019 at 01:34:03 AM

Reasons

For reasons that are still inexplicable to us, our shipment had been sitting in a shipping container in the port of Seattle since early December. It wasn't until this week that the goods were finally delivered to us here in Oregon. Although the delay has set us back a month from what we last reported, the important thing is that the games are here and are in our hot little hands and we are taking care of final details and otherwise readying to ship games and add-ons to you which should commence in about two weeks.

Surveys, CoAs, and CCs

We have sent final reminders to those who have not completed their surveys. And if you have experienced a change of address recently, now would be the time to let us know.

For those of you who ordered add-ons from our BackerKit store and have not been charged yet, you can expect your card to be charged in the coming week.

Later

I think that's about it for now. If there are further unseen developments, we will keep you posted here. In the meanwhile, you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Slow Boat From China

A very short update, but a pretty good one.

Our shipment has landed stateside, cleared customs, and as of this writing is due to arrive at our warehouse later this month. This means that, as we had hoped and projected as of the last update, we will be shipping in the first part of January.

There is one caveat (isn't there always?). Shipment to some of those who ordered certain add-ons might be delayed just a bit as we work to complete manufacture of all of them. But we hope that won't be the case as we put the lash to the helpers in Trilobyte's workshop to complete the orders on time. But we'll keep you posted.

The Game Is Afoot

Boxes for the basic edition and the special Kickstarter edition.
Boxes for the basic edition and the special Kickstarter edition.

Q: When is a door not a door?
A: When it's ajar.

Q: When is a game not a game?
A: When it's afoot.

But in this case, the game being afoot means it is more of a real game.

We have finally received prototypes from our manufacturer. Everything turned out exactly as I designed it. And if I do say so myself, they look pretty..., pretty..., pretty good.

This is the event that we've been waiting for to finally pull the trigger on mass production. We are told that all product will be finished and ready to ship to us around mid-October. Then it will be a matter of waiting for the shipment to arrive at our warehouse at which time we will start the process of fulfillment. We don't have an estimate on what date that will be, but we'll let you know as soon as we do.

The add-on items - the Stauf model, the Infection board game, Stauf & Tad miniatures, personalized miniatures - are virtually finished and will be ready to ship along with the board game. Production of the Stauf mansion model kit is underway but there is a possibility that item will be shipped later than the board game. We'll keep you posted on its progress.

Most of you are already paid in full, but to those who aren't, you can expect your card to be charged within the coming weeks. If you've moved since answering your survey or ordering items from our online store, please let us know your new address via Kickstarter message or emailing to [email protected].

Speed Bumps
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 03, 2018 at 12:36:26 AM

Looking back along the road we've traveled trying to get our board game manufactured, it feels like this looks.
Looking back along the road we've traveled trying to get our board game manufactured, it feels like this looks.

We are now officially past our original projected shipping date of July. Our last update projected Labor Day as a possible date, but since then we have hit two more speed bumps.

The first one was mostly on yours truly. The first hardcopy proofs showed that my initial attempts to get the red decoding formula working optimally were unsuccessful. It took a bit more experimentation and testing to get it right, but we are now good to go on that front. Tack on two weeks for that misstep.

Last week, we hit another, unexpected speed bump which is mostly on the manufacturer and it involves an issue with the packaging that we had assumed would be standard practice, but now find out differently. That issue remains unresolved as of this writing, but once it is, I'll have a better basis on which to project an updated shipping date. But for now, for best case scenario, let's add three weeks and project late October.

If you've been following our saga here in the Updates section, you'll recall that our first manufacturer was inexplicably unresponsive to our project from November to February and eventually we hit an irreconcilable brick wall with them and had to switch manufacturers. The new company has been consistently more responsive, but slow along each step of the way. So now, although we are on the very verge of manufacturing, and we could pull the trigger to go into mass production, but we don't want to sacrifice quality for expedience. You, our supporters and backers, deserve the best we can deliver.

A Personalized Miniature Story
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jun 21, 2018 at 12:20:55 AM

Royce Cobblepot, a very special guest.
Royce Cobblepot, a very special guest.

As part of our 7th Guest: The Board Game Kickstarter, we offered – and continue to offer through our online pre-order store – customized miniatures, sculpted to your likeness or to a likeness of your choosing. One of our backers, to our delight, took full advantage of our offer by providing a unique persona that made for a most fun and interesting miniature figure. I asked if he would share some of his background story with us and here is what he provided so generously.

-------------------------------------

I created “Walrus” Royce Tuxford Cobblepot around 2006 as my “fursona”, or alter-ego within the furry fandom, a community that celebrates anthropomorphic animals (animals with human characteristics).

He was born out of my desire to stand out as a different sort of animal, in addition to my love for all things formal, Victorian, and related to Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. Most importantly, his existence is credited to my late grandmother, who at an Easter brunch with my mother, was so entertained by someone in a horse costume, remarked, “Wouldn’t that be a good job for [your son]?” As soon as I learned about this, I decided to get the costume made, and have been entertaining ever since.

Royce has performed at different events and establishments, from Renaissance Faires to conventions to even a company cruise at National Harbor in Washington, DC! He has gained quite a positive local reputation, as well as many fans, friends, and loved ones, many of whom have been inspired to start their own creative projects. My biggest reason for wearing this suit and going out in public is to make others smile or laugh, or just give them something fun and unusual to color their day. It fulfills me deeply, just as it hopefully does for everyone else.

Royce has gone through many incarnations since his birth, including a friar (Friar Tusk), hippie, ship’s captain, and punk rocker. The costume itself, however, is a collective labor of love from family, friends, and loved ones, who have helped numerous times with repairs and updates. To this day, he continues to entertain the general public with dancing, silliness, hugs and friendly conversation with people.

Feel free to browse his photo album at https://flic.kr/s/aHsk3A8yeW, contact him at [email protected] or check out an exclusive “interview” with him from 2010 here! https://youtu.be/Lnu4eHBLNz8

Big flipper hugs!

Marc V. is a copy editor/proofreader living in Virginia. He enjoys gaming, editing, puzzles, writing romantic fiction, and dancing where able, whether as a walrus or human!

-------------------------------------

In other news, printing of the board game is underway! We continue to be hopeful that things continue without further glitches in the process and that we'll be shipping in September. We shall continue to update as things develop.

Big flipper hugs and tusk love bites!
